Carlos Tatay suffered a serious crash at the Portimão round of the JuniorGP and since then he faces a complicated recovery process… including in the financial aspect. In a recent interview with Nico Abad on YouTube, the rider revealed that the Federation has not taken responsibility for his recovery expenses, leading to a controversial situation that remains unresolved. The hope is for Carlos Tatay to continue his rehabilitation and return to racing.

Tatay expressed his urgency, stating: ‘We need a solution now. The hospital bill hasn’t been paid, and by law, I should be covered. My father was in tears outside the office of the medical director. I told him, «Dad, you need to tell me what’s going on because we can’t continue like this»’.

This shows a distressing situation the young rider is currently facing. A new law was implemented this year, mandating the Federation to update sports insurance policies, something they haven’t done since 1994. Tatay recalled: ‘They were the first to call me for a photo when I won the Red Bull Rookies Cup and when I became the junior world runner-up. But now, to abandon me in this manner hurts deeply. I know everyone in the Federation’.

The Spaniard further elaborated on the issue: ‘I pay for three licenses every year – the Spanish, the Valencian, and the international. Only the international one has covered its part. All Spanish riders are racing with an insurance policy from 1994, and the Federation hasn’t updated it’.

The Spanish and Valencian Federations are currently at odds over who should foot the bill for Tatay’s expenses. The only entity that has stepped up so far is the Superior Council of Sports, which covered his admission to the Toledo hospital, where he was supposed to continue his recovery. However, the situation remains tense and unresolved.
