Stunned with how Honda «let» the current situation in MotoGP drag this long, Carlo Pernat admitted that he doesn’t understand how it was possible, while not forgetting that after all they did for Marc Marquez, they would have made the rider pay ‘a big penalty’ for ending the contract before it’s end.

‘It’s october with a company that never opened its mouth to the rider and instead kept talking about divorce… A company like Honda that was kept in check until october baffles me. We are talking about the biggest house that finds itself at the end of october without having its ‘top’ rider under contract’, the rider’s manager began to say quoted on Motosan, before going even further and saying that they should have made the rider give a proper compensation, recalled his former role at another big company:

– I have managed companies like Aprilia and if I had found myself in a similar situation, barring a consensual agreement, I would have made the rider pay a big penalty.

Pernat also remembered the time Marquez wasn’t able to ride due to his many injuries, pointing fingers also to whoever followed his recovery: ‘But Marquez didn’t make much of an impression on us, especially after he has been paid regularly in recent years despite the fact that he has hardly raced at all. Evidently, Marquez’s doctors were also partly to blame, as they made one wrong diagnosis after another’.

And added: ‘The weakness of the world’s biggest bike manufacturer persists against the best rider: the manufacturer has the right and the duty to protect himself. Marquez naturally feels he is the best and has the right to look for the best solutions… however, if, as they say, the contract he will sign is only for one year, this is neither in heaven nor on earth…’.
