After a short delay due to the red flags shown in the previous WorldSSP300 FP2 session, WorldSBK FP2 got underway with Alex Lowes setting the fastest time.

Iker Lecuona was then quicker than the Kawasaki rider, setting a time of 1:41.524s, which was his best lap of the weekend so far and also enough to hold off Rea, who jumped into second position.

Apparently having problems on his R1, Razgatlioglu quickly returned to the pits, with Rea a tenth faster than Lecuona.

Like Razgatlioglu in FP1, Rea was managing to hold on to P1 despite being slower in the last sector compared to Lecuona and leader Bautista.

The Aruba.it Ducati rider, who was starting to look increasingly threatening after a slow start in FP1, was faster than Rea by more than two tenths, with Lecuona closing in on the six-time world champion to take second.

Marvin Fritz had a quick crash in the last corner, but was unhurt and recovered immediately.

With his front brake problems resolved, Razgatlioglu imposed his authority on the Portimão circuit, taking a half-second lead over Bautista on his first lap.

Despite the impressive time of 1:40.720s, Razgatlioglu was less than impressed with his Pata Yamaha and returned to the pits once more.

Coming out of the pits for his third outing, Razgatlioglu was off the pace compared to the time he had set earlier, concentrating on race pace.

With Razgatlioglu and Rea swapping positions during the last few minutes, the pair began to increase their pace when they both went red in the first sector, before losing time as the lap progressed and so were unable to improve.
