The four riders who will compete in the second qualifying of the Moto2 Indonesian Grand Prix, coming from Q1, have been determined. Jake Dixon was the fastest in this session.

After the initial timed laps, Alex Escrig (Forward Team) led the standings, with Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex), Izan Guevara (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex), and Taiga Hada (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team/Kalex) also in qualifying positions.

Hada improved to take the lead, ahead of Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex). Escrig dropped to third, while Roy Skinner (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex) moved into fourth.

This situation didn’t last long, as Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) took the top spot, with Ogura close behind. Bo Bendsneyder (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team/Kalex) and Jeremy Alcoba (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) also entered the top four.

Later, Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) and Ogura improved to reach the positions that mattered most. However, the Japanese rider couldn’t hold on to his place, as he was overtaken by Alcoba and Bendsneyder in the final moments.

No one could beat Dixon, as he finished 0.202s ahead of López. Alcoba and Bendsneyder also advanced to the Q2, with Ogura missing qualification by 47 thousandths of a second in fifth place.

The unexpected announcement of Marc Marquez’s departure from Repsol Honda has left the MotoGP world in a state of anticipation. With Marquez set to join Gresini Ducati for the 2024 season, the question on everyone’s mind is: Who will replace the six-time MotoGP champion at Honda?

Here are some potential contenders:

  1. Iker Lecuona: Currently a WorldSBK rider, Lecuona has been a stand-in rider for Honda on multiple occasions this season. Given his growing experience with the RC213V and his MotoGP background, he is a favorite to join the team, possibly moving to LCR Honda.
  2. Jake Dixon: A rising star in Moto2, Dixon has shown significant progress in 2023. With Marquez’s seat at Gresini taken, Dixon might find a place in the premier class with LCR Honda.
  3. Celestino Vietti: Another Moto2 contender, Vietti had a strong start in 2022 but faced challenges later on. Recent performances, however, have reignited interest in him, making him a potential candidate for LCR Honda.
  4. Maverick Vinales: A big name in the MotoGP circuit, Vinales is reportedly in talks with Honda. However, given his satisfaction at Aprilia, this move might be a long shot.
  5. Miguel Oliveira: Known for his adaptability and consistency, Oliveira has been approached by Honda. His ability to win races in varied conditions makes him a valuable asset.
  6. Fabio Di Giannantonio: Set to be replaced by Marquez at Gresini, Di Giannantonio is on the lookout for a new team. His recent performances might make him an attractive option for Honda.
  7. Johann Zarco: The french rider has just sign with LCR, but it could be easily the choice for the replace of Marc Márquez on Honda HRC, with a simple promotion leaving a blank spot for a young rider to LCR Honda

It’s clear that Honda is exploring all avenues to find a worthy successor to Marquez. With a mix of experienced riders and young talent on their radar, the 2024 MotoGP season promises to be an exciting one.

Jake Dixon secured his second pole position of the season in the Moto2 World Championship on Saturday, weeks after his previous pole in Catalonia. The Q2 session at the Buddh International Circuit saw the track conditions steadily improve after the rain stopped.

Just as in Q1, Sergio García (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) was the first leader in Q2, with Barry Baltus (Fieten Olie Racing GP/Kalex) in second and Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) in third.

Positions shuffled with the second flying laps, and Zonta van den Goorbergh (Fieten Olie Racing GP/Kalex) overtook García. Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex) moved up to third.

With less than seven minutes remaining, García passed van den Goorbergh, while Arbolino moved into third place, only to be surpassed by Binder and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex).

Now, the Spanish rider was leading, but he was later overtaken by Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex). García briefly returned to the front but was quickly displaced by Acosta and Dixon, who were the fastest with two minutes to go.

In the final laps, it was Dixon who came out on top, being 32 thousandths of a second faster than Acosta, who couldn’t improve. García was relegated to third place. Van den Goorbergh will start fourth, with Binder and Alonso López (GT Trevisan SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) alongside him on the second row of the grid.

Jake Dixon’s promotion to MotoGP for the next season was a subject of speculation this summer. However, the rider will continue in the Moto2 World Championship in 2024, as he has renewed his contract with GasGas Aspar.

Nevertheless, the British rider still has his sights set on getting into the premier class. While he assures that he is focused on his Moto2 duties, Dixon stated, as quoted by Motosan.es, that he is now looking at MotoGP for 2025:

– For now, I will focus on winning as many races as possible in this championship. Then, in 2025, when there are more available seats in MotoGP, we’ll see what happens. After all, I arrived late, so you could say my career is fresher than others. Let’s see what the future holds.

Jake Dixon is back to winning ways in Moto2. This Sunday, the British rider came out on top in an exciting battle until the end of the Catalan GP race, where Albert Arenas made his podium debut.

At the start, Dixon (GasGas Aspar/Kalex) capitalized on the pole position to stay in the lead, while Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp/Kalex) moved up to second, swapping positions with Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex).

The Japanese rider would lose positions to Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) and Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) in the early laps. At the front, Dixon kept his lead, although he couldn’t shake off the pressure from González. The Spanish rider managed to take the lead on the fifth lap, with Dixon also losing a position to Canet. Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) moved up to fourth.

The positions stabilized in the following laps, but the gaps were close. Changes occurred with 12 laps to go, with Canet overtaking González, and Acosta moving ahead of Dixon to reach the podium positions. At this stage, Acosta seemed to be in control, and one lap later, he overtook González. Further back, his main championship rival, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), was struggling and was outside of the points-scoring positions.

On the 13th lap, Dixon returned to the podium positions by overtaking González. Acosta took the lead with seven laps to go, and shortly after, Canet lost the second position to Dixon for a brief moment. These three riders formed a tight group at the front, with Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) not far behind.

With five laps to go, Acosta’s performance declined, and he quickly dropped to fifth. Canet returned to the lead but was immediately overtaken by Dixon. Arenas moved up to third, hinting at his first podium in Moto2.

The race was lively and uncertain, with the top five riders fitting within less than a second. Canet and Dixon took turns leading. Three laps from the end, at turn one, the battle between Acosta and López slowed them both down, with the second Spanish rider forcing the championship leader off the track. Two laps from the finish, Sergio García (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) completed his recovery by overtaking González to take fourth place.

The battle for victory extended to the final corners, with Dixon coming out on top to return to the winning ways. Canet finished second, 0.205s behind. Arenas completed the podium, followed by García and González. Acosta finished sixth but still gained many points on Arbolino, who was only 17th and did not score any points.
