Red Bull KTM Team closed this sunday with both of their riders well inside the top ten, and Francesco Guidotti regretted the team couldn’t reach the results that the team could have.

The Team Manager of the team addressed Jack Miller’s race – seventh position – as follow: ‘An intense race. For Jack it was solid. He recovered ground to the leaders then kept the position. He suffered a bit with the front tyre with ten laps to go but kept steady and finished with some points. It was difficult and the tyre choice was not clear but he made the right decision for himself’.

Then he looked at the performance from Brad Binder, sixth, and the two big moments of the south african which saw himself involved in two racing incidents, with Luca Marini crashing, and then after with Miguel Oliveira. These incidents meant the #33 had two Long Lap penalties:

Brad finished 6th with two long laps! A very fast race for him. It was some shaking at Turn 8 which meant he was missing some braking potential into Turn 9 and hit Luca Marini; we apologize for that but it was something out of our control. Strange contact also the second time.

Guidotti ended with a word towards the team performance which, he believes, was worthy of another result: ‘We showed our potential again but we could not catch what we could and what we deserved‘.

Brad Binder was once again one of the highlights of MotoGP this weekend in India, with the KTM rider finishing both races in fourth position, which means a recovery of eight positions in each. Francesco Guidotti said that the team had to be happy with the result, especially considering that they didn’t manage to get the best out of the KTM’s potential in Buddh.

The austrian manufacturer’s Team Manager recalled Binder’s performance on sunday: ‘Another solid race for Brad. He had a good start but was hit in the first turn and lost a few positions. His pace was enough to fight for the top five. We couldn’t make the best of the technical package here so to come away with two 4th places means we have to be happy’.

For the italian, it’s still desirable to be further ahead, even if the objectives have been met: ‘Of course, we should be more in front but the result of this sunday was OK. Being on, or as close to, the podium is our seasonal target and while you can always want better now-and-then we have to be happy with a 4th’.

After a particularly challenging race for KTM in Misano on Sunday, subsequent tests were conducted on the same circuit. However, not everything seemed to have gone smoothly for the manufacturer. Francesco Guidotti, reflecting on the tests, expressed that he had hoped for more from the sessions. One of the primary focuses during these tests was the (new) chassis, although it wasn’t exactly a novel introduction.

Francesco Guidotti, the Team Manager of Red Bull KTM, clarified that the chassis tested wasn’t entirely new. As quoted by SPEEDWEEK, he mentioned, “It’s not about a new chassis; there are only minor differences compared to the current versions.”

He further elaborated on the team’s areas of focus and expressed his surprise at the absence of certain anticipated updates. Guidotti said, “We worked in all areas. It was quite surprising for us that we didn’t receive any new aerodynamic parts to try out during this test. However, we dealt with the chassis versions and also tested modified engines for 2024. On Monday, our primary focus was on the hardware.”

In addition to working with KTM’s equipment, the teams were also provided with new tire specifications to use. Guidotti explained, “Michelin gave us two new tire specifications for the rear and one for the front. It made sense to test this compound with the current bikes, so Jack [Miller] eventually reverted to the two bikes from the weekend. These are the tires that might be included in the allocation for 2024.”

Guidotti then shed light on the advantages of the new updates, stating, “With this ‘new technology’, we can work more modularly. We can better adjust the rigidity if needed. This was the first major test of this new technology. So far, we only have the first specimen, but it works. We will test different versions of this technology in the future. In any case, this concept is genuinely promising.”

The feedback from the tests and the insights provided by Guidotti underscore the continuous evolution and adaptation in the world of MotoGP. Teams are consistently striving to enhance their performance, and testing sessions like these are crucial in identifying areas of improvement and innovation.

KTM’s endeavors in Misano reflect the broader landscape of MotoGP, where technological advancements, strategic decisions, and continuous refinement play pivotal roles in shaping the outcomes of races. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how these tests and the insights gained from them translate into on-track performance for KTM and other teams.

In the high-stakes world of MotoGP, where fractions of a second can determine the outcome of a race, every tweak, adjustment, and innovation counts. The feedback from the Misano tests, especially from a seasoned professional like Guidotti, offers a glimpse into the meticulous preparation and relentless pursuit of excellence that defines the sport.

As teams gear up for the next races, fans and enthusiasts will be keenly watching how these technological advancements and strategic decisions play out on the track. The journey of continuous improvement, adaptation, and the quest for perfection in MotoGP continues, with teams like KTM at the forefront of this exciting evolution.

Jack Miller was the sole man for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing to finish this sunday race at Barcelona and on top of that, the rider actually felt well even with new settings, assured Francesco Guidotti.

Owner of the eighth position, Miller had a novelty on his bike, related to the configurations he tried, which worked well, as the team’s Team Manager said:

– Jack started with a completely new setting. We said ‘we have nothing to lose’ and we went for it and after a few laps he was comfortable and started pushing. He recovered and just missed out on maybe two more positions if he knew it was the last lap! He has his feeling back, which is good.

Dani Pedrosa will continue to be a test rider for KTM in MotoGP. This was a role he took on in 2019 after ending his competitive racing career.

Since joining the Mattighofen manufacturer, Pedrosa has been a key member of the project, making a decisive contribution to the development of the bike – as evidenced by the improvement in results since then. In addition to riding in several test sessions, #26 has also made wildcard appearances, with the next one scheduled for the San Marino Grand Prix next week.

Francesco Guidotti, Red Bull KTM team manager, said in a press release: ‘Dani’s MotoGP experience is immense and he showed us in Jerez that he is still capable of setting P1 lap-times! That ability and his standards and his unique feeling for a Grand Prix machine is what makes him so important and an inspiration to us and the riders. We are keeping many parts of our MotoGP project consistent and stable, so this commitment with Dani is very positive. We are looking forward to Misano!’.

KTM’s motorsport director, Pit Beirer, commented: ‘The feedback and all the laps Dani have given us with the test team has helped make our RC16 what it is today: a bike that is one of the fastest on the track and one of the best to have in a fight. He knows our program, our technicians and our philosophy very well after five years together and the work is just as important as ever. We’re delighted to keep him in the structure and for Dani to continue helping us achieve our MotoGP goals’.
