Joan Mir, the Repsol Honda rider, recently shared his thoughts on Frankie Carchedi, who is rumored to become the track engineer for Marc Márquez in his new journey with Gresini. Carchedi had previously worked with Mir for four years in MotoGP during his time with Suzuki. Mir holds fond memories of working with Frankie, as conveyed to our correspondent, Manuel Pecino.

However, the weekend in Indonesia didn’t start on a positive note for Mir. During the first training day at the Mandalika circuit, he missed out on a direct entry to Q2. Despite significant improvements from the first training session, Mir couldn’t secure a spot among the top ten, ending up in the nineteenth position.

Speaking to the media, Mir stated, “The FP1 wasn’t particularly good. Right from the start, I didn’t feel very comfortable, especially from an electronics standpoint. But in the afternoon, I felt much better. We made progress using the ‘H’ tire, which is considered soft here. The bike responded better, and the electronics worked more efficiently, allowing me to perform well, especially on used tires.”

Regarding the afternoon session, Mir explained the obstacles that prevented him from directly accessing Q2. “During my first time attack, Marc interfered. I’m not sure what happened or if he faced any issues, but it disrupted my lap. In my second attempt, I was following Pecco, and there were two yellow flags. In my third attempt, I had one last chance to give it my all.”

Mir continued, “I thought we were on a good lap, and had I completed it, we might have been among the top five or six without improving my last sector. But then I saw Pecco going wide, and I braked at the same spot. I went slightly off the track, which here means going straight to the ground. I lost the front part, and all our chances of entering Q2 vanished.”

On the topic of Frankie Carchedi potentially joining Marc Márquez’s team, Mir said, “We have great memories together, and I appreciate his work ethic. I hope he achieves great success with Marc in the future. Is he lucky to work with him? We’ll see.”

As the MotoGP season progresses, such incidents and team dynamics will continue to capture the attention of fans and insiders alike.
