For decades, the MV Agusta brand has been known primarily as a noble manufacturer of particularly sporty motorcycles. In order to expand its customer base, the launch of two Lucky Explorer models was planned for 2023, a two-cylinder Lucky Explorer 5.5 and a three-cylinder Lucky Explorer 9.5, both based on the history of the Cagiva Elefant, which was produced in the late 1980s at what is now MV Agusta’s main factory in Varese. It was thought certain that Lucky Explorer would become a sub-brand of MV in order to be able to develop new customers more easily. This was planned years ago, but the new shareholder Pierer Industries didn’t like either model very much and so the smaller displacement Lucky Explorer 5.5 as a spin-off from the QJ Motor is now considered “abandoned”, but not yet confirmed.

For the big sister, a new market positioning had to be found with time pressure so as not to get in the way of the already established KTM 790 and 890 Adventure and Husqvarna Norden 901. That’s why the Lucky Explorer sub-brand was literally abandoned at the last minute.

Instead, the bike will be integrated into the existing MV Agusta model family and won’t go on sale until early 2024. Among other things, this means a new name and that, like the Turismo Veloce, it will be called the Enduro Veloce in the future. At least, that’s what the Italian media are suggesting. Visually, the paintwork has been adapted accordingly and will shine in the typical MV red/silver, which is already appearing on the pre-production model photographed and still slightly camouflaged. Other optical details have also been revised. For example, the base of the windshield is transparent on the production version and the seat appears to be more padded and of better quality.

The engine, an exclusive MV Agusta development with a counter-rotating crankshaft, 81 x 60.2 millimeters in diameter and stroke, the typical three cylinders and a total displacement of 931 cc, has been slightly adapted. It is expected to produce around 125 hp. Final tuning is still underway and supplier Bosch and shareholder KTM are also helping with the finishing touches.

Price details can only be expected after the final presentation. This will probably take place in November at EICMA in Milan.
