Seeing a rider on the ground ‘every rider’s worst nightmare, but hitting them is even more shit’, says Brad Binder

Brad Binder had an unfortunate moment in yesterday’s first MotoGP race as he hit Francesco Bagnaia and the KTM rider was pleased he didn’t cause any serious problem for his opponent, saying it is the ‘worst nightmare’.

After saying he got to visit the italian, he recalled the start of the race and then how he had seen a piece of the #1’s bike to get… on his own RC16: ‘When the race restarted I didn’t have another hard tyre, so I had to put a Q on the front. The start wasn’t bad, I tried to get up to temperature and then I had a technical problem, because I think a piece of Pecco’s bike got stuck in my intercooler before it hit him. I went to check on Pecco and he seemed fine. The best thing about today [this sunday] is that I didn’t hurt anyone. At least not seriously’.

He then got to be on the restart of the race, explaining what is the most complicated part: ‘The trickiest part is to just get back on and carry on. The good thing is I saw him move, and I knew I’d just clipped his leg. Or legs. I don’t quite know. But I knew I got over enough to make sure at least I never hit him square’.

Finally, Binder was relieved he didn’t cause anything too serious: ‘But at the end of the day it’s every rider’s worst nightmare – to see someone there is scary, but to be the one who hits them is even more s**t, to be honest’.

And ended with a thought, and a funny view on the italian when he first saw him: ‘I’m just really glad that, ok, I don’t know if he’s ok-ok, but he’s fine, you know what I mean? I went to see him at the medical centre, and he seemed 100%, I just don’t know if he maybe has something with his leg or legs. Honestly, when I walked in there, I wasn’t expecting to see him chilling. I must be quite honest. And he seemed ok’.
