Pedro Acosta delivered a commanding performance at the Moto2 Indonesian GP in Mandalika, securing another victory. This result further solidified his path toward the title.

Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) made a strong start, taking the lead in the opening meters of the race before being overtaken by Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex). Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp/Kalex) occupied third place, while Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) sat in fourth.

By the third lap, Acosta had reclaimed the lead. Shortly afterward, Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) moved into podium positions, overtaking González and Arbolino.

In a relatively uneventful race in the top positions, Acosta managed to build a gap of around one second over Canet, who, in turn, created a lead of over two seconds ahead of Aldeguer.

The battle for fifth place heated up about ten laps from the end, with Arbolino coming under pressure from Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex). Dixon eventually executed a successful overtake but made a mistake, relinquishing the position.

With just two laps to go, Dixon reclaimed fifth place from Arbolino, capitalizing on a moment when the Italian nearly lost control of his bike.

At the front, the order remained unchanged until the finish. Acosta celebrated his victory with an impressive lead of nearly two seconds over Canet, with Aldeguer completing the podium. Dixon managed to secure fourth place, overtaking González on the final lap.

Friday in Mandalika for the Moto2 Indonesian Grand Prix ended with another record. Pedro Acosta set the fastest lap ever in the category at this circuit to lead the second practice, which he dominated.

Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) set the pace in the early laps, with Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) in second. However, during the second attempts, Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) and Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp/Kalex) moved into the top two positions.

While Acosta solidified his lead, Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) moved into second, and Canet dropped to third, overtaking González. With just under half an hour to go, Acosta set a new record: 1m34.800s. Around the same time, his teammate Albert Arenas moved into second. With six minutes left before the checkered flag, Canet surpassed Acosta to become the new leader and record holder.

The championship leader didn’t leave his position to others and regained the lead near the end lapping in 1m34.456s. He finished 0.180s ahead of Canet, with Lowes in third, González in fourth, and Ogura in fifth to complete the top five.

Deniz Öncü concluded Friday’s action at the Indonesian MotoGP with a new circuit record at Mandalika, earning him the top spot in the second practice session with a time of 1m39.855s.

The initial leader of the session was Jaume Masiá (Leopard Racing/Honda), making up for the time lost due to his crashes in the morning session. David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) was in second, and Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) in third.

The top two riders maintained their positions, while Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) moved up to third.

Although lap times continued to drop, the top two riders remained in their respective positions. Moreira then moved back up to third, with Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) also surpassing Holgado to take fourth place.

With 20 minutes remaining, Moreira overtook Muñoz for second place, and shortly thereafter, Öncü became the new leader, being 0.232s faster than Masiá. Lap times were now faster than those in the morning session.

Only in the final ten minutes top positions changed again when Moreira moved up to second, exchanging places with Masiá. Shortly after, the Brazilian was one of three riders to crash, along with David Alonso (Gaviota GasGas Aspar) and Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP).

No significant changes occurred in the final minutes. Öncü finished at the top, being 0.132s faster than Moreira. Masiá briefly lost third place to Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) but quickly regained it. Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) completed the top five.

Pedro Acosta expressed his satisfaction with finishing on the last step of the podium at the Japanese Grand Prix in Moto2, behind the winner Somkiat Chantra and second-placed Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex).

It was a really tough race. I made a mistake in the first corner. I miscalculated the start… After that, I stayed at a distance that I couldn’t recover from. However, this podium counts more than others because I wasn’t as good as in other weekends. These are good numbers and points for the championship. We’re doing a good job’, said the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider to DAZN.

Regardless of what happens for the rest of this season, the 19-year-old Acosta has already confirmed that he intends to stay in the Moto2 World Championship next season, although he doesn’t know which team he will be racing for, whether he continues with KTM or switches to another squad.

Riccardo Rossi emerged as the leader in the Moto3 Q1 session at the Japanese GP. As a result, the Italian was one of the last four riders to secure a spot in the battle for pole position at Motegi.

After the first flying laps, Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) was the leader ahead of Scott Ogden (VisionTrack Racing Team/Honda), Mario Aji (Honda Team Asia) and José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo). However, several riders only posted their first lap times later on.

Filippo Farioli (Red Bull KTM Tech3) briefly moved into second place, pushing Rueda out of the qualifying positions, and then had a highside at turn two. Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing PrüstelGP) overtook Furusato with six minutes remaining to become the new leader. At the same time, his teammate, Xavi Artigas, moved into third.

Despite improvements in lap times, the top four remained unchanged, with Kelso, Furusato, Artigas, and Farioli holding those positions.

However, this changed in the final two minutes when Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) became the new leader, and Rueda moved into fourth. As a result, Artigas fell out of the qualifying zone by 0.039s. The standings didn’t change further until the end, and thus the last four participants in Q2 are Rossi, Kelso, Furusato, and Rueda.

For the second time in 2023, Pedro Acosta secured two wins in a row in the Moto2 World Championship. At an Indian GP race that began with chaos and a red flag, the rider led from the first to the last lap and rivals couldn’t keep his pace.

After the start, an incident involved five riders at turn one. Although all were conscious, it was necessary to red-flag the race to resolve the situation.
The race resumed for 12 laps. Jeremy Alcoba (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) was deemed responsible for the incident due to irresponsible riding and was penalized with a Long Lap.

In the restart, Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) had a good getaway from pole position, but Sergio García (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) was stronger and took the lead in front of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex)… until Acosta overtook him in the opening lap. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) settled into third place.

After Arbolino passed García, the podium positions remained stable, with Acosta pulling away. On the third lap, Alonso López (GT Trevisan SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) crashed and collected Dixon while they were battling for fifth place. López retired from the race.

Similar to Acosta in the lead, Arbolino also pulled away in second place. On the other hand, García couldn’t solidify his third position, and in the final laps, he came under pressure from Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex). The American executed a spectacular overtake in turns eight/nine on the penultimate lap.

García put up a strong fight for third place, but Roberts secured it in the closing corners. With no significant challenges, Acosta was a clear winner, beating Arbolino by 3.543s. Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) completed the top five ahead of the surprising Zonta van den Goorbergh (Fieten Olie Racing GP/Kalex).
