Álex Rins competed in the MotoGP Indonesian GP and was in action in Australia on Friday, but the pain caused by loose screws in his injured leg led to his premature withdrawal. The Thai GP is already next weekend, and the rider is uncertain.

This also poses some troubles for LCR Honda. The team will have to find a substitute for Rins in the coming days when two of those who occasionally filled in for him are unavailable: Iker Lecuona has the World Superbike round in Jerez, and Stefan Bradl told the site SPEEDWEEK.com that he’s testing at the same circuit and can’t go to Buriram.

So, if Rins is absent, there may be an even less regular rider in the Thai round. Last season, Tetsuta Nagashima acted as a substitute for the injured Takaaki Nakagami in Buriram, in addition to being a wildcard in Japan.

Álex Rins finally returned to competition at the MotoGP Indonesian GP and achieved a strong result after more than four months of absence. He finished in ninth place, matching his second-best result of the year.

Speaking to the official website of the championship, the Spaniard from LCR Honda admitted he was physically drained: ‘I’m done, honestly. I’m super tired after this long and though race with really hot conditions. The track was a bit slippery, but after 13, 14 laps, I started to struggle a lot with the leg – because the anesthesia goes out and I started to change a little bit my riding style to don’t suffer that much’.

After the efforts in his rehabilitation over the last few months, Rins gives an even bigger importance to this result: ‘During the race I thought in all the hours we did at home – physiotherapist, gym, hours and hours watching MotoGP. And I think this race was the strenght that we put to finish the race. This, for us, is like a podium’.

Several riders were sidelined due to injury for extended periods this season, including Enea Bastianini, Pol Espargaró, and Álex Rins, who attempted a comeback at the Japanese GP but was unfit to race.

The Spanish rider from LCR Honda was asked whether he would like a rule that allows riders who have been out due to injury for an extended period to have a private test to regain their form and assess their physical condition.

In his answer, Rins stated: ‘For sure now that I’m injured, for sure yes: I’m looking to be more prepared. But I don’t know. Maybe for the Japanese manufacturers, change this rule for the next year’.

According to LCR Honda, the pain rendered the rider unfit: ‘Álex Rins has been declared unfit due to the pain he’s felt today on the right leg while testing on track. We are proud of his efforts, thanks for trying Álex!’.

There are two weeks left until the Indonesian GP, which is now Rins’ next goal to return to competition – at a time when four months will have passed since the fractures he suffered in June at the Italian GP.

Álex Rins will try to return to action at the MotoGP Japanese GP, after being away from the tracks for nearly four months due to fractures in his right leg. Despite being in Motegi, it is still uncertain whether he can race, as he will need to assess in the practice sessions whether the pain is manageable or not.

The Spaniard from LCR Honda commented with the press: ‘I’m feeling good, happy to be back, happy to be here. You know, it’s quite impressive because two days ago I was in Madrid in the hospital with the doctors talking, comparing the x-ray. And obviously there was a huge difference comparing one month with two days ago. So, we decided to continue the steps and the next one is to jump on a MotoGP bike’.

However, Rins stressed that if he is too much in pain, he will not be able to continue riding: ‘We don’t know if it will be painful or not, but I passed the medical exam. Let’s see tomorrow. The main target is to see if it’s painful or not. I have a lot of pain in the lateral of the fibula, so we need to see if it is super painful. I know it’s long way from home, it’s 16 hours on plane. But if it’s painful we need to stop and continue recovering. So, let’s see’.

Asked how much fit he feels, the #42 replied: ‘It’s difficult to say, because for example in home I can walk more or less normal – same as here. But when you are 300km/h it’s very different. When I tried last time in Aragon it was super painful in the changes of direction. It was so painful on the right corners. But for sure Aragon maybe was too aggressive: you have corner one, change direction, then two fast corners to the right. I don’t know; it was one month from that test, so let’s see’.

The SPEEDWEEK.com website reports that yesterday the Spaniard underwent a successful medical examination. Rins is already on his way to Motegi and is listed to attend to one of the pre-race press conferences.

To be able to compete in the Japanese GP, Rins will need to receive clearance from doctors in the usual Thursday examinations. If he does not get the «green light», Stefan Bradl is on standby to take his place in the LCR Honda team once again.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team will undergo new changes in 2024, with Franco Morbidelli leaving and Alex Rins joining. Lin Jarvis recently admitted that he doesn’t know the manufacturer’s reinforcements very well, but that he has high expectations.

The Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing said in an interview with Michel Turco that he doesn’t know the #42 as a person because he has ridden for opposing teams over the years, but he is hopeful that the rider will come with a willingness to work and help the team turn around the less positive results of recent times:

– I don’t know him very well because he’s always one of our rivals. But I hope he’ll contribute, take part in the team’s efforts and works to turn things around. He’s a rider with a competitive spirit and he does his best.

Rins is with LCR Honda this year, a team with which he has already won once and which has helped end Honda’s long winning streak in MotoGP, and will be joining Yamaha, while Morbidelli will be leaving for Pramac Racing, as confirmed earlier this week.

The MotoGP paddock is abuzz with speculations and rumors, and one of the most discussed topics is the future of riders, especially with the recent performances and decisions made by teams and riders. Álex Rins, a prominent figure in the MotoGP circuit, recently shed light on his injury and the ongoing rumors about Marc Márquez’s future with Honda.

Álex Rins on His Injury

Rins has been sidelined from the action due to a severe injury he sustained in Mugello, where he broke the tibia and fibula of his right leg. This unfortunate incident disrupted his adaptation to the Honda RC213V, a bike he will be leaving at the end of the year to join Yamaha’s factory team.

Initially, Rins was optimistic about an early return, possibly during the races in August. However, the severity of his injury and the slow recovery process of his tibia have considerably delayed his return to MotoGP. This situation has compelled the LCR Honda Team to find a substitute for him in each race. The latest substitute, Takumi Takahashi, couldn’t compete in the two Misano races as he failed to meet the championship’s minimum time during the free practice sessions.

Despite his injury, Rins has been actively supporting the LCR Honda Team. He attended the recent Grand Prix events to contribute his insights from the pit box. During the Misano GP, Rins was invited by Motogp.com to comment on the MotoGP FP2 session. During this commentary, he shared insights about his injury and the current hot topic – Marc Márquez’s future.

Rins highlighted that the main concern is not the nerves but the tibia. He mentioned, “I lack about 4 or 5 centimeters of bone, as the doctor told me in Catalunya.” He admitted that he wasn’t fully aware of the gravity of his injury until the doctors pointed out the tibia issue. Rins is now waiting for an opportunity to test his riding capabilities on the RC213V.

Rins on Marc Márquez’s Future

The MotoGP community has been rife with rumors about Marc Márquez potentially leaving Honda for Gresini Racing. Rins shared his perspective on this matter, stating, “I’ve heard many rumors about Marc, especially in the last few hours. It could be a huge shock for everyone, including Honda.”

Rins personally believes that Márquez will stay with Honda. He reasoned that Márquez has been with Honda for many years, and despite his injuries, the team respects him immensely. Rins understands Márquez’s current predicament with the bike’s performance and believes that Márquez will honor his contract with Honda for another year.

Furthermore, Rins pointed out that Márquez is tactically handling the media buzz about his future. He mentioned that Márquez is “playing” with the press through the videos he posts on his social media platforms. “The good thing? Marc is playing. He’s taking advantage of this,” Rins opined.

Conclusion

The MotoGP world is always filled with uncertainties, be it about riders’ performances, team decisions, or the future of prominent figures like Márquez. While speculations continue to swirl, riders like Rins provide an insider’s perspective, shedding light on the realities and challenges they face both on and off the track. As the season progresses, fans and enthusiasts will be keenly watching how these stories unfold and what decisions the riders and teams make for the future.

As Iker Lecuona has his commitments in the World Superbike Championship, Takumi Takahashi will replace the injured Álex Rins in the LCR Honda team at the MotoGP San Marino GP.

The Spanish rider broken his tibia and fibula about three months ago at the Italian Grand Prix, which required surgery and a long recovery period that is still ongoing. Lecuona has been his substitute, as he doesn’t have calendar conflicts with WSBK in five rounds.

According to Motorsport.com, LCR Honda had to look for a replacement for Rins in Misano, where Honda test rider Stefan Bradl will be a wildcard entry to test components. Andrea Dovizioso was reportedly one of the riders Lucio Cecchinello considered, as well as Tetsuta Nagashima.

However, the choice appears to have been Takahashi, although there has been no official confirmation yet. The 33-year-old Japanese rider is a Honda test rider in Japan, and his only MotoGP appearance dates back to 2015 as a wildcard for Honda in the Japanese Grand Prix.
